Holy cow it's amazing how fast time flies! I never seem to have... make... time to sit and write anymore. The babies are growing quickly and doing very well. Sleeping has been sporadic and inconsistent, but we know everyone gets through it, we we'll keep plugging along.
Today was wonderful!
As soon as I walked out the door this morning, I realized that it wasn't my kids that wanted me up early, it was God. The fields were covered in fog and the sky was pink with the sun just peeking up over the horizon. We don't see many mornings this early as a family, so this morning was special. Alayna said, "Look at all this water!" "Water" is her description of "fog." Which really is a pretty good explaination when you think about it.
For me, the day started off about 2am and really got going at 5am when there was a coup d'etat among the children. We gave up about 6:00 and fixed breakfast for the little tyrants. Alayna showed no sign of slowing down so I decided we needed to get our daily shopping done... yes daily... there's always something we need. Did you know that the Walmart at 6:30 is almost empty? So if you wanna shop with a cranky 2-yr-old alone, that's the time to go. Alayna was too tired to do too much begging. There are also new self-checkouts so you don't have to wait on the 1 cashier who is open and serving the few people who are actually shopping at that early hour. Daddy fixed breakfast for the tired old people of the house around 8:00. Waffles. We both ate more than we should have, but when you're exhausted and starving, that's what you do.
At 8:30 we got a call from our friends Erin and Hannah who invited us to play at the park. Hannah typically sleeps until very late in the morning, so this was a treat as well since we don't get to spend much time with them now that school has begun. We got to the park about 9:45 and the girls played really well together and ran hard! Before we knew it, it was almost lunch time!
Lunch was a breeze. Banquet chicken nuggets (she ate 8) with ranch dressing. Joel slept through all of lunch, then Alayna went down easy at 12:30. The rest of the day was peaceful too. Joel slept until almost 5pm, with a feeding around 2pm. Alayna only slept until 2:00, but she wasn't terrible and did a great job helping me with the bread-making.
Oh, sweet bread-making! It's my downfall for sure. God must have known that too because he decided he was ready for the 44-yr-old bread maker to say it's parting good-byes, accompanied by a faint smell and then smoke from it's little engine. Alayna said, "Ooo mom! Berwee hot!" I almost died of laughter, then swiftly took it out to the back patio. RIP KitchenAid Mixer from Meme Muller!
This evening went well too. We had parmesan covered Talapia, rice, creamed peas (yuck) and salad. By 7:30 baby boy went down and baby girl's bath began, 8:00 snacks eaten and Lama Lama books read, and right at 9:00 baby girl was put to bed, almost without a fuss. It was as perfect a day as I could have ever asked for. And to top it all off, my spirits are high and feeling blessed.
